RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) said it has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 269,411 captagon pills at Al Haditha land port, after the drugs were concealed inside a food shipment entering the Kingdom.ZATCA spokesperson Hammoud Al-Harbi said the shipment was declared as food products and underwent standard customs procedures, including inspection using advanced security technologies and live detection methods.The pills, containing the amphetamine-based drug captagon, were found hidden inside containers of ghee.Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, leading to the arrest of two individuals inside the Kingdom who were set to receive the drugs, Al-Harbi said.He reaffirmed that ZATCA continues to tighten customs controls at all land, sea and air ports to combat smuggling attempts and protect society from drugs and other prohibited items, in line with the authority’s security strategy.Al-Harbi also urged the public to contribute to anti-smuggling efforts by reporting suspicious activities via the dedicated security hotline 1910, the email address 1910@zatca.gov.sa, or the international number 009661910.He said reports are handled with full confidentiality and may qualify for a financial reward if the information proves accurate.
