RIYADH — Arab and Islamic countries on Saturday strongly condemned Israel’s announcement of the appointment of a diplomatic envoy to Somaliland, describing the move as a flagrant violation of Somalia sovereignty. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Indonesia and Türkiye rejected all unilateral actions that undermine the unity of states or infringe upon their sovereignty. The ministers reaffirmed their firm support for Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. They also stressed backing for the legitimate Somali federal government institutions as the sole entity representing the will of the Somali people. The statement said Israel’s actions constitute clear violations of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the Constitutive Act of the African Union. It added that the move sets a dangerous precedent that could undermine stability in the Horn of Africa and negatively affect regional peace and security.
