In Maizdi, Noakhali, the death of a mother and her newborn due to medical negligence.
During the seizure operation in Maizdi, Noakhali, allegations of wrongful treatment leading to the deaths of a mother and her newborn have surfaced. The deceased, Sima Akter (21), was the daughter of Mr. Harun of Yusuf Sowdagor's house in Ward 1 of Noakhali Municipality and the wife of Jahir Uddin from London Market area of Kadurpur Union in Begumganj.
On Saturday afternoon (May 4), the unfortunate incident of the newborn's death occurred. Prior to this, yesterday afternoon (Friday) at 2 o'clock, allegations of malpractice were raised at Maizdi Modern Hospital in the housing road of Maizdi town. Subsequently, on Saturday night at 8 o'clock, the relatives of the deceased stormed the hospital in outrage.
The deceased's paternal uncle, Mr. Naimur Rahman, alleges that at 12 o'clock on Friday afternoon, Sima's relatives took her to Maizdi Modern Hospital. At that time, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Dr. Ashika Kabir performed the seizure operation. During the operation, there was a mistake which resulted in the rupture of Sima's uterine artery, causing excessive bleeding. However, the doctor kept this matter confidential. Later, on the same day, at 9 o'clock in the evening, seeing the deteriorating condition of the patient, the doctor referred her to Dhaka. When they reached Dhaka Medical, at around 6 o'clock in the evening, within 10 minutes of arrival, the doctors at a hospital in Chittagong declared the newborn dead.
Responding to the allegations, Chairman Rafiqul Bari Alamgir of Maizdi Modern Hospital denies them, stating that they have been sitting with the patient's relatives. No doctor would deliberately lead anyone towards death.
Mr. Anwarul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Police Station, said that upon receiving the news, the police visited the scene of the incident. If a written complaint is received, legal action will be taken.
Dr. Masum Iftekhari, Civil Surgeon of Noakhali district, stated that upon receiving the allegation, Dr. Nusrat Naim Jabin, the Sub-District Health Officer, has been sent to the scene. Further investigation will be conducted, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
